The Al-Zaher Palace Museum, also known as the Makkah Museum, is a historical museum located just a 10-15 minute drive from the Haram. This two-story building is surrounded by beautiful gardens and showcases the history of Makkah. Inside, you’ll find many archaeological collections from various periods of Islamic history in the region.

The museum features history galleries, a gift shop, collection storage, a café, a library, an auditorium, and a variety of exhibits. This tour will be particularly rewarding for Muslims and students of Islamic history, as the museum features seven halls with over 100,000 artifacts, many of which are centuries old. The museum, with its architecture blending traditional Islamic design with modern technology, stands as a tribute to the rich history of Muslim rulers. Among the exhibits are old manuscripts of the Holy Quran from different periods. Visitors can also learn about the codification of the Arabic language after the death of Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W).
The museum includes a theater that showcases the beautiful names of Allah. With pools surrounding the building, it gives the impression of floating on water, symbolizing the museum’s purpose to rejuvenate faith. Additionally, the museum serves as a meeting place where Muslims from different cultures can share and learn about each other’s practices and perspectives on Islam.
About the museum
The museum provides separate washrooms for men and women, along with a prayer area near the entrance. Visitors can also enjoy free Zamzam water. The staff is friendly and includes female guides who assist women in various languages. For visitors, the museum opens in the evening, so it’s advisable to check the timings in advance.
