Saudi Arabia announced on Tuesday the sighting of the Dhul-Hijja crescent, marking the start of one of the holiest months in the Islamic calendar.
With this crescent’s sighting, Eid Al-Adha will be celebrated on June 6.
Eid al-Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, is a significant occasion for Muslims, during which they come together for prayers, engage in charitable activities, and sacrifice an animal.
This festival coincides with Hajj, the annual holy pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia, which is one of the five pillars of Islam. According to Saudi officials, over one million Hajj pilgrims have arrived in the country for this year’s Hajj season.
The Hajj pilgrimage lasts for several days and involves a series of structured rites. It begins on the 8th day of Dhul Hijjah and continues until the 13th of the month. This year, Hajj is expected to take place from June 4th to June 9th, 2025.
